Subject: AnsaldoBreda
Dear Mr. Eriksen,
My name is Alex van Herwijnen, I am a railway enthusiast living in the
Netherlands. I understood that your company has ordered several train sets
from the Italian company AnsaldoBreda, which have been delayed for over 4
years now.
As you know, the Dutch and Belgian government started building a high speed
line running from Amsterdam to Antwerp several years ago, giving both
countries a better connection to the European network of high speed trains.
They formed a company called High Speed Alliance (HSA), which will run the
trains from Amsterdam to Brussels and Paris.
HSA has ordered trains from AnsaldoBreda, the V250, which have been delayed
for quite some time now. The reason HSA chose AnsaldoBreda was because
they had the best price, especially considering the raising costs of the
already expensive high speed line. Because of several delays, from both
track issues and repeating delays in delivering the V250, this is not as
inexpensive as it used to be any more.
Rumour has it that the Netherlands have received a tempting offer from
Siemens, claiming to be able to deliver the high speed trains. An additional
benefit is that these trains are already allowed on the major Dutch railway
network as NS Hispeed is already operating the same train sets on the network
since quite some time now. Perhaps DSB got a similar offer from Siemens?
This request may seem odd, but I have good reasons to make it: the only way
for our countries to get out of this order with AnsaldoBreda, is if your
company cancels its order with AnsaldoBreda for the Intercity-carriages.
As I said, I am a railway enthusiast and I am badly disappointed by the work
AnsaldoBreda has done so far. I would rather see Siemens deliver some Velaro
train sets to both countries, as the Velaro is a proven concept and Siemens
is known for delivering its products on time.
I hope you will consider this request, given the huge delays that
AnsaldoBreda is known for, and the significant financial implications their
failure has had so far and will continue to have, on the national budgets
of both your and my country.
All the best, and greetings from the Netherlands,
AlexNL
